Study on microstructure of plant seeds by positron annihilation
Positron lifetime measurements were performed on biological samples of lima bean and peanut. The ex-perimental results show that there are many small holes with diameter of 0.48nm and 0.7nm
respectively
in lima bean and peanut. The very special micro-hole structure of plant seeds is the basis of biological effect caused by ion implan-tation with low energy. The peanut seeds were implanted with vanadium ions at energy of 200keV. The positron anni-hilation lifetime (PAL) spectra for the implanted and non-implanted peanut samples were compared.
