A condition test on soil samples with four different dissolution preparations is presented. The results show that the 4 mol/l HCl-0.4 mol/l HF is an ideal dissolvent for
90
Sr and
137
Cs in soil samples. With the mixed acid the nuclides
90
Sr and
137
Cs can be dissolved by the classical method. By radiochemical analysis
the average concentration of
137
Cs in soil is 18.4 Bq/kg
well in agreement with the results of 18.0 and 18.5 Bq/kg determined by the gamma spectrometry method.
The chemical recovery of
90
Sr and
137
Cs for about 200 soil samples is more than 80%. The procedure is accurate and reliable for practical use.
