Cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) is one of the preferred material for the fabrication of X-ray and gamma-ray detector. Thanks to the relatively high atomic number
high density and wide band-gap
CZT detector possesses sharp energy resolution and high detection efficiency without cryogenic cooling. A prototype planar CZT detector with sensitive volume of Φ 8mm×1.7 mm has been fabricated and the gamma-ray spectra of 241Am were obtained. At room temperature (22℃) and for the 59.54 keV peak
the FWHM can achieve 2.06 keV
while no polarization is observed and stability is very satisfactory.
